My heart! Not every marriage is perfect, and this definitely wasn't one of them. Sometimes something's outside is perfect, but it's a shell hiding the rot within. To anyone in a hurtful/abusive relationship, I wish you well and I hope you figure out what your worth is. You are worth more than gold.
Jennifer recounts her past marriage and how the effects of her ex corroded anything that was good in her life. I'm so glad she was able ot get out of that situation and find her self-worth. True love doesn't need to be a romantic type of love, as she discovered when she would lay eyes on her daughter, and I love that sentiment. If it weren't for her daughter, she'd probably be stuck in the same cycle of abuse, so she really was a Godsend.
It broke my heart to read about her journey, but I'm elated at the ending: a new beginning with an abundance of sunshine.
In Things My Husband Said, author Jennifer Free outlines the painful reality of covert verbal and emotional abuse in a marriage and the detailed plan she developed over several years that ultimately empowered her to safely leave while maintaining primary physical custody of her daughter without a lengthy legal battle.
