My review:This book is filled with fun and unique puzzles that make you think. It’s a lot like sudoku, but there’s a cool spin that makes it interesting and unique. The artwork in the puzzles and the way they’re laid out keeps it fresh and fun. The puzzles range from easy (1 star) to difficult (5 star), and my goodness, they can be tough—but in a good way! I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves puzzles or games that will help keep your brain sharp. I’ll definitely be getting more of these books for friends and family that I know would love this. Summary:Albcell is a visual and mental treat for puzzle-lovers of all ages and skill levels. Each puzzle contains a unique logical challenge within a picture…
This set of 81 brand-new puzzles is inspired by, and a tribute to, one of the greatest minds in western music: Richard Wagner. As a fitting mental challenge in his honour, the puzzles chart Wagner’s journey into our modern consciousness. While fans of Albcell will find all the familiar challenges within these pages, this edition also introduces another innovation – the ‘double puzzle’ – to further stretch the minds of puzzle-lovers everywhere! My Review:I've always been a huge fan of Nathaniel Luscombe's work, and this solidifies it even more. The scope of the world is phenomenal and the characters are well done. Nathaniel's world building abilities are beyond amazing, and I can't recommend this book enough. The story moves along with perfect pace, and the twists are elegantly done. I love the shared dreams and the switching point of views. I love books where the reader is in the dark and are trying to figure out what's going on alongside the main character. It really bonds you to the story and continuously keeps you invested. I'd give this ten stars if I could, but alas, only five are available. Amazing job. Summary:Two girls. One fate.
Alejhar has spent her life by the sea. She knows its secrets, or so she thinks. When she gets caught in a storm, she finds herself face to face with the impossible. Now she has to figure out what her island has been hiding from her. Jynn has spent her life catching jellyfish. She doesn't know how to save the world. Especially when it needs to be saved from the people she trusts most. A man's dying words are going to send her on a journey to discover who she really is. When they come together, the island may crack beneath the weight of its past. My Review:This collection of short stories is breathtaking. I enjoyed every moment, every character, and every new world. Nathaniel Luscombe is a master at finding the best writers and bringing them together for a beautiful masterpiece. Summary:The universe is full of life.
Life is full of sorrow. There are beings who walk between the stars, longing for love. There are rebels fighting for freedom. There are museums dedicated to all that has been lost. There are humans dying so that others can survive. The universe is full of life, not all life is meant for the universe. My Review:This book is filled with well thought out points and ideas, and I appreciate that a lot. Having a dream without a plan leaves emptiness and disappointment. I may not agree with everything in this book, but it’s cool seeing the other side of things. I love the way this is formatted, like an interview or a conversation. Eric and Corinne bounce off each other well and are extensively knowledgeable about their field of study. This brings up a lot of interesting points and gets you thinking. This is definitely a book with reading, no matter what side you stand on, even if you’re a sheep or an activist. Summary:Almost everyone agrees on the need to transition the global economy to net zero. But how do we do it? And how do we do it faster ? If you feel demoralized, depressed or confused about the climate crisis this book will provide answers – and ones that don’t involve punishing lifestyle changes, the end of capitalism, or a much higher tax bill.
Supercharge Me is grounded in relentless realism about how governments, businesses and individuals actually behave. It draws lessons from what has worked so extreme positive incentives and smart regulations. Through a series of fast-paced dialogues, the authors introduce practical ideas for change that will embolden activists, reinvigorate the disheartened, and reframe the climate crisis as an opportunity. My review:I very much enjoyed this book! The font is large, making it easy for anyone to read, and there's ample room to jot down your thoughts or make notes. The prompts are easy to follow and there are quite a few that made my heart swell. If you want to deepen your work relationships, or even broaden your horizons when it comes to your job, this is the book for you. I very much enjoyed this and I highly recommend it. Summary:The dreaded performance review! As an employee, do you develop anxiety when writing about your performance at the end of the year? Do you stare at your computer for hours wondering what to write about? Maybe you even begin to doubt yourself and if you're really cut out for your role.
Often, because we are so busy with day-to-day assignments, we lose sight of our achievements (our Good Stuff) so that by the time your year-end review comes, you'd rather get called into jury duty. What if I told you that just by taking a few steps every couple of weeks you will look forward to your performance review? It will no longer be a moment you dread, but one you eagerly look forward to. The My Good Stuff journal will help Employees will appreciate this journal as it is an efficient way of tracking accomplishments. Managers, mentors, coaches, and HR professionals will value this tool as it helps cultivate motivated, productive, and engaged employees seeking to own their careers. My Review:The world building in this book is phenomenal. I really enjoyed reading about how this future came about, and all the intricacies in the paradigm shift in society. It was so well detailed and the author did an amazing job at keeping it from sounding bland. In fact, it was my favorite part. Even the descriptions of the tech and how they came to be or how they functioned had me enthralled and hanging on every word. That being said, this book does need another work-through, and for some reason the interactions between characters didn’t stick with me too well. Besides that, the author is great with descriptions and pulling a believable narrative to connect us with the futuristic tale he’s spinning. Summary:In an era where Earth has become a distant painful memory, the descendants of those fortunate to have fled had taken with them more than just their lives memories and pain, war followed them. For the tragedy of Earth was but the first chapter in an ongoing struggle for dominance over the minds of Humanity. Mining bases have gone dark, squadrons of warships carry out wargames while the droning masses are fed a copious diet of propaganda. Beings beyond imagining, some pawns in this great game, are waiting for the coming collapse. As pieces move into place, whisper turns to rumor as thoughts become reality, zero hour approaches. In the chaos and mass confusion the Jupiter Sector orders the thawing of a young woman from stasis. It is her first day awake since the war. It is the year 2412, and nothing will be the same, again.
My Review:I absolutely loved each of these haikus. The way they tell a story, the way they made me feel… can’t compare. Some made me laugh, others made me excited. Never was I bored or disconnected. I loved this. Definitely a favorite for this year! Summary:Author and poet Michael Mortenson takes us on a dazzling journey through the history and elements of the science fiction genre. Pushing the boundaries of classical haiku, the collection takes on topics like the space race, superheroes, kaiju films, and space opera. The collection contains over 175 pages of haiku and micro-essays.
Mortenson won the 2022 LDSPMA award for Best Emerging Poet for his pre-publication manuscript of The Sci-Fi Haiku: Epoch 1. My Review:This is short, sweet, to the point, and filled with information and the meanings behind God’s word. The prodigal son is often talked about, or so it seems to me, and each time I hear about him, I seem to learn something new. God loves us and never stops. He will never leave nor forsake us, and that’s something we must remember. He’s waiting for us with open arms, even if we walk away, even if we’re gone for so long we think He’s forgotten about us. But He hasn’t, because He loves us. We are precious to him. This short book is a wonderful one to read. It could be life changing for some, and for others, a needed reminder. Five stars, absolutely. Summary:This book provides a thorough analysis of the three narratives that Jesus told while addressing the Pharisees' and Scribes' criticisms in Luke 15. Instead of using just one parable to address the audience and one issue, the author is attempting to justify the use of three nearly identical parables.
When Jesus interacted with the outcasts and wounded in society, the Pharisees and Scribes behaved as though they were God's selected people and criticized Him for it. And they wanted these people to remain rejected, wounded and lost for ever. Some wounds were provoked by our own bad behavior, but others were inflicted by those who considered themselves God's people. Many have had similar experiences. And perhaps you are among those who have been so deeply hurt that you have confused God's imperfect people with God. Maybe you have even run away from God as a result. The author tries to address the issue from his own painful experiences and the revelation of the word of God. Another possibility is that you feel unworthy of being restored to a warm, loving connection with God or with God's people because you have been wounded to the point where you have forced yourself into exile. Regardless of the pain you are experiencing, the mystery of these three narrations can assist you in starting a healing process that will allow you to reclaim the joy of God's presence and all the benefits He has for you. This tiny booklet will bolster your spirits if you feel hurt and abandoned by others by telling you that Jesus will stand up for you. We see development through the three narratives, from the relationship of one in a hundred to one in ten, to one in two demonstrating God’s affection for each individual and His particular attentiveness toward all humankind. Review: Besties in Space - Zap and Flare in the Science of stopping thieves by Richard DeLozier5/7/2023 My Review:This is a cute little story with both stunning and cool images. Alice is in a coma, Malcolm is missing... and Ian is trying to keep his cool under the pressure of finals. Can’t he just catch a break? Doesn’t seem like it, after getting bitten by the bug species taking over the school, and... hearing one of the bugs talk? Is this it? Has he cracked? Or is there something more sinister happening here? Eh, it’s probably just a bunch of weird bugs, right? My Review:If you are looking to experience substantial growth in your small business, The 400-Hour Workweek is the perfect book for you. Each chapter and section of Vasilijevic's 400-hour workweek includes helpful links and tools to use, as well as ways to get in contact with him, allowing you to reap the life-altering benefits this book has to offer. This book is a breath of fresh air compared to the other books in its genre, outlining specific steps to optimize time management. It cuts out the fat and gets right to the meat, helping provide the necessary structure to ensure success in business. As I studied this book, I utilized the strategies and advice presented and began to apply them to my life. If I’m doing things that don’t help me or my business grow, then I should cut it out (but I shouldn’t forget to let myself unwind sometimes). The work you put in to something won’t always give you the outcome you desire—unless you’re working on the right things AND doing them right. This is definitely one of those books I’ll keep close at hand to reference back to when I’m feeling stuck or like I might be misplacing my time. I highly recommend and very much enjoyed this one. “My life, as is common in most people’s, can be summed up as a series of defeats. But you don’t need many victories to turn it around and shift the balance in your favor.” Summary:Simple math: 100% of 8-figure business owners spend most of their time on $10,000/hour activities. What are yours?
Here’s the problem. Business owners don’t know exactly what their most important activities are. As a result, they work on the most urgent things, that never move the needle the most. In the meantime, the $1,000/H and $10,000/H activities are left alone, and the business is standing still, or growing at a very slow pace. Remember this: your most important activities aren't determined by your industry or skills. They're only determined by the stage of growth your business is at. You don't spend your time on the same tasks when running a 6-figure business that you would when running a 7- or an 8-figure company. What brought you here won't get you there. That's what you'll discover in this guide. THE 400-H WORKWEEK lays down all the activities business owners face from launching their businesses to running an 8-figure company – so you know the right things to focus on at all times. That's what real time management is about. Apart the right activities to work on to grow your 8-figure company (or your 7-figure business if you’re not there yet), you’ll discover: • How to transform yourself before transforming your business (page XXXV) • Why knowledge is not power… and what really is power (page 71) • The definitive blueprint to know if the people you consider spending some time with are worth it or not (page 80) • What the most critical stage of the life of your business is – and how to handle it perfectly (page 121) • Why reading one book per week leads to confusion and is a waste of time + what to do instead (page 157) • The right framework to get your first million FAST if you’re not there yet – it’s easier than you think (page 178) • The quick and easy-to-grasp definitive HAPPINESS blueprint – most people live all their lives without (page 220) You’ll learn in a very concrete fashion how to mathematically 10x your productivity, 10x your free time for yourself and your family, and outpace your competitors 10x. This is why it’s called The 400-Hour Workweek: You and the average business owners work the same number of hours. Nonetheless, by the time they have worked 40 hours, you’ve just outpaced them 10 times, by working on the RIGHT activities, and piling through what would be—for them—the equivalent of a 400-Hour workweek. |
