Book Review: Speechless by Madeline Freeman

My Review:

I don’t know what I expected, but it wasn’t this. It was a pleasant surprise and kept me enthralled the whole time. People forget about the original Little Mermaid story, and. I love the references to it!

Putting the Little Mermaid in a futuristic setting is something I never thought I needed, but here we are. Plus, I love that it’s a clean/non-mature story! I feel like it’s getting harder and harder to find ones like that.

I loved reading this, and can’t wait for more.

Book Review: Oberon's Calling: The Birth of Nick Jones: A Science-Fiction Action Thriller by Keith McIntosh

My review:

It's been a long time since I've seen such a well-crafted scifi story, but this hits the mark.

I was constantly blown away by the characters, their actions, and the repercussions that came from them. Often, I find myself rather vocal about books, but this one, I stayed silent. It had me engrossed. I even loved the characters you were meant to hate (yes, I'm talking about Lucien). It was so well done and expertly crafted, I can't give it any less than 5 stars.

There is, however, a lot of mature language and violence. But the way McIntosh delivers combat through writing is inspiring, and it's so vivid, you're connected to the characters through the whole fight.

This book is smart, well-rounded, and the world is insanely immersive. McIntosh has quickly become one of my favorite authors--and for good reason. This book is 100% worth the read, and I can't wait for more.

Summary:

Lucien Malum is a junior executive for the Research and Development section of The Corporation’s megastructure, that was safely nestled inside Olympus Mons on Mars. He has been slowly climbing the corporate ladder for well over a century. Since becoming the Assistant-Director of the Special Projects division, Lucien has been secretly searching for a very special piece of ancient technology. A hyper-advanced fighter craft.

He’s not the only one looking for it.

The Council, a group of centuries-old superhumans who have guided human expansion since humanity were forced into the stars. They are also looking for the craft, as well as the remains of their fallen comrade.

When the craft is discovered on Jupiter’s ice moon Europa, the resulting covert struggle for control over the ship and what remains of its pilot will change one man’s life forever.

This book is a perfect example of how to get into the zero-waste living mindset. It shares examples on things such as repurposing items around the house and even starting your own garden. Overall, the concept is wonderful and will speak to many.

Review: Moon Soul by Nathaniel Luscombe

My Review:

“I do not fear death. Why are you determined to fear it for me?”

There’s so much about this book I love. The world, the creativity, the memories in the sand… I’ve always loved Nathaniel’s books, and this is no different. It’s so lighthearted and sentimental, and in a world where every story is dark and intense, this is a wonderful break.

So much love went into this book, and it’s outwardly apparent. The characters are full and bright and supportive, and the relationship between August and her mother is complex, but expertly maneuvered.

Another great book by Nathaniel. This is one you don’t want to miss.

Summary:

"I don't think I can justify it any longer. I'm going to quit my job."

August has never been good with change and isn’t sure who she is beyond her job of reading memories in the sand. When she comes to the conclusion that she has to quit her job, she’s left with an overwhelming sense of emptiness. What follows is the quiet chaos of a girl regaining control over her life on a small desert moon.

Deciding to take a job in the hanging gardens of the Spire, August discovers more to life as she meets new friends, forms a different connection with her home, and faces an unexpected visitor from her past.

Rich in relatable emotions and experiences, inspiring in message, and written in prose that will hook you from page one, Moon Soul is a science fantasy novella unlike any you’ve read before. It will leave you feeling seen and understood.

Book Review: Even Animals Wear Glasses

My Review:

This is such a cute book with cute and creative illustrations! It’s perfect for any child learning to read, and is a lot of fun to read out loud to them. Highly recommend!

Summary:

Yes, animals do love wearing glasses, but not in the way that humans use them. In fact, animals have their own unique ways of wearing glasses. For example, some animals use glasses to protect their eyes from the sun or dust, while others use them to enhance their vision.

Interestingly, some animals even have built-in glasses in their eyes! The eyes of certain animals, such as cats and owls, have evolved to have a reflective layer called the tapetum lucidum. This layer acts like a mirror, reflecting light back through the retina and improving their vision in low light conditions.

So while animals may not wear glasses in the same way humans do, they certainly have their own unique ways of protecting and enhancing their vision.
