Why 'Hippo' by Robert Raphael is a Must-Read Children's Book of the Summer (My Review)

My Review:

This was so cute. The images were simple and adorable, and I really enjoyed what the hippo did and watching him try to figure out how to stay cool in the heat. Loved it. I think this would be perfect for any kid wanting a cute adventure with silly solutions and diverse characters.

There are a few words in here that might need adult pronunciation, though, so maybe this would be best read aloud as say a bedtime story!

Summary:

Join Hippo on a whimsical journey as he tries to beat the heat in a charming tale filled with humor, vibrant characters, and unexpected twists.

Hippo starts his day lounging in the sun, only to find the temperature soaring to a sweltering 103 degrees. Determined to cool down, Hippo embarks on a series of delightful misadventures. From borrowing sandals from Mr. Hemingway to trying out sunglasses and sitting at an outdoor café, Hippo’s efforts seem futile as the thermometer stubbornly reads the same high temperature.

In his quest for coolness, Hippo interacts with a host of amusing characters – a shivering snake, a perfectly comfortable ostrich, and a nonchalant crocodile.

Despite his best efforts, nothing seems to work. Not even the arrival of a Viennese doctor and a French balloonist, who weigh Hippo in the most peculiar way, can help him escape the heat.

This endearing story is perfect for children and families, teaching a valuable lesson about creativity, perseverance, and finding joy in the simplest of solutions. Filled with lively illustrations and a playful narrative, "Hippo" is a delightful addition to any bookshelf.

Grab your copy today and dive into Hippo’s hilarious journey to beat the heat!

My Review:

This is such a cute book. It had me smiling. I also LOVE the images. They’re bright and colorful, and I love the use of different elements used, giving it more dynamic and more to look at. This book is absolutely adorable, and perfect for young kids.
Amazon

Summary:

Rhyming Riley is about a dog who likes to talk in rhymes. The Riley in the book is based on a real dog named Riley who needed a home. The author of this book adopted him, and they soon became a family. Tracy gave him much love and many toys, and he loved her back. They became the best of friends and remained so for the rest of his life.

This book is filled with fun and colorful illustrations on every page to make kids smile. Riley's shares his story through cute and silly rhymes as he shares his doggy humor and smile with the readers.

My Review:

I took a little break between this book and the last, so it took me a second to jump in again. But when I did, I was hooked once more. I've seen these characters grow so much, and I'm walking every step of the way with them as they fight to save their universe against Khelmatoth.

The stark contrast to Hunt from the first book all the way until now is insane. We actually get to see him processing the difference and just how much has shifted in his world, reminding us where he started, back on Delta-13 in the snowbanks with Wells.

We also get to delve more into Krancis and the other alien races. I can't explain how rewarding it is to read these books and be able to follow along with the history and lore dumps that happen. They're easy to follow and produced in such a way that keeps you invested and interested in every word.

I loved this book, and I can't wait for the next one. This is shaping up to be one of my favorite series, and I am looking forward to eventually dedicating a whole bookshelf area for the entire series once it's out.

Great read!

Summary:

Armies prepare, and innocents are slaughtered. Can mankind hold on?

The heroes of the Earthborn have returned from beyond space, and they have brought reinforcements to aid in the fight against Khelmatoth! But the dark lord has taken advantage of his foe's absence to raise ever more of his ancient army from their death-slumber and has accelerated his battering of the straggling remains of humanity's last great empire.

No planet is safe from his predations, and his followers are zealously corralling the populations of whole worlds for use in his dark experiments. Creating whole new kinds of abominations which are only the tip of his malevolent genius.

Humanity's aid is powerful, and with its new Emperor to lead them, there is now one force that can be brought to bear on this horrifying reality in a desperate attempt to stem the tide.

But over the cataclysmic din of these newly risen combatants, the universe is showing itself to not be what it once was. With subtle differences in reality beginning to manifest and ancient prophecies turning on their heads, forces from outside are taking a new interest in the conflict, if only to prevent the Earthborn from destroying the universe.

New players enter the field, old foes adopt new tactics, and secrets from outside of time are revealed.

Can this new existence survive the wrath to come?

Leap into the fray with book eight of The Earthborn Saga!

My Review:

This was an interesting concept, and I did enjoy listening to it, but it was a bit hard to follow at times. There were so many sounds and musical things happening in the background at times, that it was hard to hear or understand everything being said. Sometimes the voices sounded too much alike and I found myself wondering which character was talking.

All in all, it was an interesting and unique story, and I did enjoy what I did understand. But it was a fun listen.

Summary:

A gripping, full-cast science-fiction drama for fans of time travel, conspiracy theories, and unexplained phenomena.
In the not-too-distant future, a 21-member crew launches from Earth. Their mission: to establish a temporary colony on Mars. Little do they know that colony will become permanent–and the last stand of the human race. Because, without warning, every single person left on Earth simply...vanishes.
Now, a thousand years later, the resources needed to sustain life are running out, and the very existence of the Mars colony is threatened. Humankind has only one option–to return to its home planet.
But is Earth safe? Could the Vanishing happen again?
To get answers, two teams are launched back in time–one to New York City before the Vanishing; another to follow a bizarre trail of clues through history, from Area 51 to the lost Roanoke colony, and beyond.
There are forces, though, that don’t want the Temporal mission to succeed. And a mysterious being whose own agenda might destroy them all.

My Review:

I had a lot of fun reading this book (well, I listened to the audiobook, but it was still fun). I loved the humor and the depth of each character. I even loved the love.... square? To me, this was a new take on an apocalypse, and it wasn't with zombies, necessarily, but with something that brought out the worst version of you. It was entertaining and made me laugh a few times, and I can't wait to read the other books in this series. Great read!

Summary:

What happens when the first day of school is the last day of the world?
For sixteen-year-old Virtue, navigating 11th grade is hard enough. Throw in the mass carnage of the Purple War, the brain-mangling Lemming Plague, and the overnight, post-apocalyptic breakdown of civilization, and suddenly, arguing with her parents, being picked on by bullies, and tyrannized by her teachers doesn’t seem quite so devastating.

Now, trapped on the campus of her elite, co-ed boarding school, Virtue’s new priorities are saving her best friend (and potential boyfriend?), fending off Virulents, dodging Clique Baiters and Serial Daters, and rescuing Beynac—her Golden Retriever service dog. Oh, and surviving.
It took sixteen years of torment and insecurity to make Virtue a wallflower. It took a single day of classes (and an academy full of brainwashed, dog-stealing, finger-eating killers) to turn her into the school’s most feared and deadly badass.
